As Holliston continues to evolve, so does its commitment to fostering an inclusive and vibrant community. A shining example of this is the rebranding of the Holliston Senior Center, now known as “The Center.” This thoughtful name change isn’t just a cosmetic update—it reflects a shift toward greater inclusivity, ensuring that residents feel welcome and supported at every stage of life.
Why the Name Change?
The decision to move away from “Senior Center” was made to better represent the diversity of the 55+ community and to reduce any stigma that might discourage participation. By rebranding as “The Center,” the focus shifts to a sense of community and belonging, rather than age labels. The new name embraces the vibrant, multi-faceted lives of older adults and invites others in the community to join in.
Director Lisa Borchetta explains, “We want to make it clear that this is a place for everyone to connect, contribute, and thrive—whether you’re 55, 85, or just someone who loves engaging with your neighbors.”
What Does “The Center” Offer?
The Center serves as a hub for learning, wellness, and community connection. Its bi-monthly newsletter outlines a range of activities and services, including:
- Health and Fitness: Yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, and even specialized fitness classes like “Functional Fitness for Brain & Body.”
- Social Opportunities: Join the monthly book club, a lively games day, or a Rainbow Coffee Hour for LGBTQIA+ members and allies.
- Education and Resources: Attend workshops on estate planning, Medicare options, and decluttering techniques. You can also participate in fascinating talks like an upcoming lecture on the U.S. Constitution.
- Support Services: The Center offers outreach services, transportation, medical equipment loans, and even assistance with fuel and food programs.
One standout feature is its Memory Café, launching soon thanks to a grant from the Massachusetts Home and Community-Based Services program. This monthly event will support individuals living with memory challenges and their care partners.
Do You Have to Be a Senior to Participate?
The programs and resources are for the 55+ community. Everyone in the community is welcome to come see the center, shop at our stores that support our programs and services or inquire about volunteering.
