In recent years, many corporations made public commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). They pledged to invest in marginalized communities, create more equitable workplaces, and support businesses owned by people of color. Now, many of those same corporations are backing away from those promises.

That’s why on Friday, Feb. 28, Diverse Holliston is joining a 24-hour economic blackout—the first of multiple planned actions to push back against the rollback of DEI efforts.

OUR FIRST ACT: TURN IT OFF

For one day, we stop spending. We show these corporations who really hold the power—us. Money talks, and by refusing to engage in non-essential spending for 24 hours, we make it clear that DEI isn’t optional.

WHAT NOT TO DO:

✔ Do not make any purchases.
✔ Do not shop online or in-store.
✔ No Amazon.
✔ No Walmart.
✔ No Best Buy.
✔ No McDonald’s.
✔ No fast food.
✔ No gas (unless absolutely necessary).
✔ No major retailers.
✔ No credit or debit card transactions for non-essential spending.

WHAT YOU CAN DO IF NECESSARY:

✔ If you must buy essentials (like food, medicine, or emergency supplies), use cash at small, local businesses instead of big corporations.

SPREAD THE MESSAGE:

✔ Talk about the blackout with friends, family, and neighbors.
✔ Post about it on social media.
✔ Document your actions that day—share why you’re participating and what this movement means to you.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

✔ Corporations and banks care about one thing—their bottom line.
✔ If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, they will take notice.
✔ If they don’t listen, we make the next blackout longer and stronger.
✔ This is only the beginning. Our collective power is real.
✔ This is how we create change.

Holliston, Let’s Make History

While we may be a small town, we are part of a national movement demanding accountability. The fight for diversity, equity, and inclusion is far from over, and we won’t sit back while progress is undone.

On Feb. 28, TURN IT OFF. STAND TOGETHER. MAKE AN IMPACT.
